Description
Milestone English Level A is for children between the ages of 3-7 who are just learning to read for the first time. It is also suitable for older children who need extra support to become independent readers.
Milestone English Level A is roughly aligned with the Australian Curriculum Foundation and Year 1.
There are two essential components:
- The reusable textbook which you can use for all of your children. This textbook may also be used as a stand-alone learn-to-read resource by tutors and parents of much older children (early teens and beyond) who are not yet reading. For older students, a spelling program is also included as an appendix. All teacher directions are in the textbook so no additional teacher resource is required.
- The workbook is suitable for children from ages 5-12. It teaches handwriting, basic sentence composition and simple grammar concepts. The workbook cannot be used as a stand-alone resource because many activities in the workbook rely on the textbook. Each child will require their own workbook.
The optional flashcards consist of two different card types:
- Handwriting model cards. These are for your child to “finger trace” to get familiar with the shapes of the written letters and can be mounted on the wall so your child can use them as reminders when they are writing.
- Smaller spelling cards. Letter cards using the same font as the reading exercises from the textbook. These can be used for letter recognition and spelling practice. Especially useful for younger children.
The flashcard set contains both sets of cards. 90 cards in total.
Note: The workbook and flashcards are available in fonts to match state school-based beginner fonts. If you just want a font that looks like traditional print handwriting, select the SA option as this is the closest to a traditional print font.
