Young Beginners
Level A is designed for beginning readers and for older students who need to develop foundational reading and writing skills.
- Is your child able to count to ten?
- Can your child hold a pencil correctly?
- Is your child showing an interest in reading?
- Can your child focus on an activity for ten minutes?
If you answered yes to all of these questions, your child is probably ready for Level A.
If you have a very keen child, they may begin Level A at the of age 3, although some writing activities may need to be modified. For a less keen child, delaying until age 8 may be appropriate. Readiness is more important than age.
Remedial Students
If your child has significant difficulty with reading and writing, Level A may be an appropriate starting point, even if they are older.
Level A has been written with older learners in mind. It does not use “baby talk”, and many of the workbook activities are designed to be appropriate for older students in both content and presentation. This allows students to work on foundational skills without feeling that they are being given “baby work”.
